What to make with fuse beads

The most popular projects are small and quick: fridge magnets (glue a magnet to the back), keychains (leave a hole for the ring), coasters, Christmas ornaments and bookmarks. Larger pieces made from several pegboards joined together become wall art. For seasonal ideas, see the Christmas and Halloween bead patterns.

Drawn to hold together

Every design is drawn bead by bead with a dark outline, so it reads clearly from across a room and every bead touches its neighbours, which keeps the piece in one piece after ironing. The materials table on each pattern lists how many beads of each colour you need before you start pouring.

Sizes that fit one pegboard

Standard 5 mm midi beads from Perler, Hama, Artkal, Nabbi and MARD all fit 29 × 29 square pegboards, so any design up to 29 beads across fits on one board. The pixel art designs further down are 16 × 16, which leaves room to spare and finishes at about 8 cm across with 5 mm beads. Mini beads make the same design about half the size.

Perler, Hama or another brand

Colours are Perler®-compatible midi beads, and the PDF key lists the nearest Hama® colour too. Open any design in the editor to switch it to the Hama, Artkal, Nabbi or MARD palette, or turn it into a cross stitch or bracelet pattern.

Ironing and finishing

Cover the beads with ironing paper, iron on a medium setting in slow circles until the beads just fuse, then flip the piece and iron the other side for strength. An adult should do the ironing for young children. Our guide to ironing fuse beads covers temperatures, warping and how to keep pieces flat.

Frequently asked questions

What are good Perler bead ideas for beginners?

Small designs with few colours: a heart, a smiley face, a mushroom, a ghost or a slice of fruit. They take under an hour including ironing.

Do these patterns fit one pegboard?

Yes. Every design fits a single 29 × 29 square board for midi (5 mm) beads.

Do these patterns work with Hama or Artkal beads?

Yes. Midi beads from Perler, Hama, Artkal, Nabbi and MARD are all about 5 mm and fit the same pegboards. Each pattern page can switch the colour list to your brand.

How many beads does a pattern need?

The pattern page counts every bead by colour. A 16 × 16 design uses at most 256 beads, and usually fewer because the background is left empty.

Can I use mini beads?

Yes. The design stays the same; it just comes out about half the size. Choose mini beads in the editor to see the new finished size.

How should I iron the beads?

Lay ironing paper over the beads, use a medium setting and move the iron in slow circles until the beads just fuse, then do the back. Children should always have an adult handle the iron.

Can I print the pattern at full size?

Download the PDF and print at 100%; the chart shows every bead. For a true-size pegboard template, see the printable pegboard sheets on PrintablePapers.

Can I make my own pattern from a photo?

Yes. The fuse bead pattern maker turns a photo into a bead chart in your brand's colours.

Can I sell what I make?

You can sell finished pieces you make by hand from these patterns in small quantities, with credit to craftpatterns.app. Please don’t sell or share the patterns themselves (CC BY-NC 4.0).
