About this design

The controller is a wide Dark Grey shape with two handles at the bottom. On the left is a black cross for the d-pad, in the middle two small black buttons, and on the right four single beads in Red, Light Blue, Yellow and Green. It is not a copy of any one console’s pad, just the general shape gamers will recognise.

Bead counts: 131 Dark Grey, 62 Black, 1 Red, 1 Light Blue, 1 Yellow and 1 Green, 197 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.

Placing the beads

You need one large square pegboard for this 21 × 11 design. The four coloured buttons are single beads; put them in before the grey round them so they do not get lost.

Ironing and finishing

An adult should do the ironing. Use ironing paper, a medium dry iron and slow circular movements, lifting the paper to check after about ten seconds. Iron the back once the front has cooled, and leave it under a book so it stays flat. Finished, it is about 10.5 × 5.5 cm, a good size for a magnet, a keyring or a gamer’s birthday card.

Colour plan

Perler 80-19092 Dark Grey does the most work, 66% of the 197 beads, followed by Perler 80-19018 Black at 31%. Perler 80-19005 Red (1), Perler 80-19009 Light Blue (1), Perler 80-19003 Yellow (1) and Perler 80-19080 Bright Green (1) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 15% of the grid is left empty.

Working notes

All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
