About this design
The pumpkin is a wide oval of Orange with two vertical ribs of Tangerine that give it its round, segmented look. Black triangle eyes, a small nose and a wide grin with square teeth are carved into the front, and a short Green stem sits on top. The grin runs across the full width of the face, which makes it look friendly rather than scary, so it suits younger trick-or-treaters.
You will need roughly 99 Orange, 82 Black, 20 Tangerine and 2 Green beads. Buy a few spares of each, because the odd bead always rolls away.
Placing the beads
At 17 × 15 beads the design fits easily on one large square pegboard. Place the black face features first, then fill the orange around them.
Ironing and finishing
Ironing is a job for an adult. Cover the beads with ironing paper, set a dry iron to medium and move it in slow circles until the beads just begin to merge, then let it cool, turn it over and press the back. Cool it flat under a heavy book so it stays straight. At about 8.5 × 7.5 cm in midi beads it makes a Halloween magnet, a garland piece or a party-bag treat.
Colour plan
Perler 80-19004 Orange does the most work, 49% of the 203 beads, followed by Perler 80-19018 Black at 40%. Perler 80-19080 Bright Green (2) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 20% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
