About this design

The hen faces left with a White body, a Creme wing and a tail that rises up at the back. A Red comb sits on top of the head and the wattle hangs under the beak, which is Yellow like the feet. It is a cheerful addition to the farm animals, and it makes a good Easter decoration next to the sheep.

Bead counts: 60 White, 51 Black, 9 Creme, 7 Red and 6 Yellow, 133 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.

Placing the beads

You need one large square pegboard for this 17 × 16 design. The feet are separate from each other but each one touches the body, so lay them in after the outline.

Ironing and finishing

Ask an adult to iron it: ironing paper on top, a medium dry iron, slow circles, and stop when the beads are joined but the holes are still open if you want a lighter look. Turn it over, press the back and cool it flat. At about 8.5 × 8 cm it is just right for an Easter decoration or a farm-set piece.

Perler 80-19002 Creme (9), Perler 80-19005 Red (7) and Perler 80-19003 Yellow (6) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 51% of the grid is left empty.

Working notes

All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
