About this design
Three-by-three squares of Light Blue and White alternate across a round disc, with a black rim. The pattern repeats every six beads, so after the first few rows it is easy to keep going without looking at the chart. Change the Light Blue for any colour to match a kitchen, or make a set of four in different colours.
Bead counts: 145 Light Blue, 132 White and 64 Black, 341 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.
Placing the beads
One large square pegboard (29 × 29 pegs) holds the whole 21 × 21 design. Count in blocks of three as you fill each row; one bead out of place stands out in a check. Check each row against the chart before you move on, as one stray bead is hard to fix after ironing.
Ironing and finishing
Ironing is a job for an adult. Cover the beads with ironing paper, set a dry iron to medium and move it in slow circles until the beads just begin to merge. Let it cool, turn it over and press the back, then cool it flat under a heavy book. At about 10.5 × 10.5 cm it makes a coaster for a mug or a glass.
Colour plan
Perler 80-19009 Light Blue does the most work, 43% of the 341 beads, followed by Perler 80-19001 White at 39%. Every colour is used at least 64 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 23% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
