About this design
The ring is the tricky part of any planet sprite, so this one was calculated from a tilted ellipse: it passes behind the planet at the top and in front of it at the bottom. The planet has bands of gold and a highlight on its upper left, as if lit by a distant sun.
How to use it
Use it in space-themed bedrooms, astronomy club badges and science fair posters. Make it with the UFO, alien and rocket for a space set. Change the ring and planet colours in the editor to invent your own world.
Size and bead counts
The picture fills 118 of the 256 squares in its grid, within an area 16 squares wide and 10 tall; the rest stay empty. It uses 7 colours: black 34 (#111122), light orange 20 (#FFCC77), orange 19 (#EEAA55), purple 18 (#7755BB), light purple 15 (#BB99FF), dark orange 9 (#CC7733), light yellow 3 (#FFEEBB). Made with 5 mm fuse beads it measures about 8.0 × 5.0 cm and fits on one standard 29 × 29 pegboard. Stitched on 14-count Aida it is about 2.9 × 1.8 cm, or 3.7 × 2.3 cm on 11-count, so add a few centimetres of fabric on every side for the hoop.
Colour plan
#111122 does the most work, 29% of the 118 pixels, followed by #FFCC77 at 17%. #CC7733 (9) and #FFEEBB (3) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 54% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
It is 16 × 16 pixels; at 8× scale it becomes 128 × 128. The busiest row changes colour 8 times.
