About this design
The shell is a dome of warm brown with darker diamond flecks for the plates, and the green head pokes out to the right with a white eye. Four short legs and a rim of green under the shell keep the body grounded. The sprite is wider than it is tall, so it leaves room for a background.
How to use it
It makes a lovely bookmark-shaped stitch, a reading-challenge badge (“slow and steady”) or a tortoise pet portrait. Add grass or water in the editor to fill the empty rows. Change the shell to green for a sea turtle.
Size and bead counts
The picture fills 121 of the 256 squares in its grid, within an area 16 squares wide and 10 tall; the rest stay empty. It uses 5 colours: black 54 (#112211), brown 36 (#AA7744), light green 19 (#77BB55), dark brown 10 (#775522), dark green 2 (#447733). Made with 5 mm fuse beads it measures about 8.0 × 5.0 cm and fits on one standard 29 × 29 pegboard. Stitched on 14-count Aida it is about 2.9 × 1.8 cm, or 3.7 × 2.3 cm on 11-count, so add a few centimetres of fabric on every side for the hoop.
Colour plan
#112211 does the most work, 45% of the 121 pixels, followed by #AA7744 at 30%. #447733 (2) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 53% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
It is 16 × 16 pixels; at 8× scale it becomes 128 × 128. The busiest row changes colour 12 times.
