About this design

The star is Yellow with a Lemon centre and a black outline, and the trail is a stepped line of Lemon beads running down to the bottom left. The trail has no outline, which keeps it light. It looks lovely on a child’s bedroom wall or as a ‘wish upon a star’ card for an exam or a new job.

Bead counts: 31 Black, 29 Yellow and 18 Lemon, 78 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.

Placing the beads

At 17 × 15 beads the design fits on one large 29 × 29 square pegboard with room to spare. Every trail bead touches the next along an edge, so the trail fuses as one strip; iron it a little longer to make it strong.

Ironing and finishing

Ironing is a job for an adult. Cover the beads with ironing paper, set a dry iron to medium and move it in slow circles until the beads just begin to merge. Let it cool, turn it over and press the back, then cool it flat under a heavy book. At about 8.5 × 7.5 cm it makes a wall decoration or a card.

Colour plan

Perler 80-19018 Black does the most work, 40% of the 78 beads, followed by Perler 80-19003 Yellow at 37%. Every colour is used at least 18 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 69% of the grid is left empty.

Working notes

All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
