About this design

The top scoop is Flamingo strawberry with a couple of Blush beads for shading and a curve of White as a shine; its lower edge drips down into the Mint scoop below in three soft bumps. The mint scoop has a few Brown chocolate chips and Caribbean Sea shading along the bottom, which then drips over the rim of the cone. The cone is Sand with a diagonal waffle grid in Butterscotch, and a Red cherry with a short brown stalk sits on top.

Bead counts: 71 Mint, 70 Black, 61 Flamingo, 46 Sand, 30 Butterscotch, 15 Blush, 15 Caribbean Sea, 8 Red, 19 White and 4 Brown.

Placing the beads

The chart is 28 rows tall, so begin at the top row of a large square pegboard. The waffle pattern is the fiddliest part: place the Butterscotch lines first, following the diagonals, then drop Sand into the diamonds between them. On the scoops, put in the drips and shading beads before the main colour so they do not end up one peg out.

Ironing and finishing

An adult should iron it. Use ironing paper, medium heat and slow circles, paying a little extra attention to the narrow point of the cone. Once it has cooled, flip it and press the back. Cooling under a book keeps the long shape from curling. The finished cone is roughly 9.5 × 14 cm, which works as a bookmark-style decoration, a party place-card holder or a magnet for the freezer door.

Colour plan

Perler 80-15240 Mint does the most work, 22% of the 327 beads, followed by Perler 80-19018 Black at 21%. Perler 80-19005 Red (8), Perler 80-19001 White (7) and Perler 80-19012 Brown (4) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 39% of the grid is left empty.

Working notes

All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
