About this design

The cap is Red with White spots and a few Cherry beads at the edges for shading. Underneath, a short Creme stalk has two black eyes, which turns a plain mushroom into a character. It is a simple design and fits nicely with the hedgehog for a woodland theme.

Bead counts: 74 Red, 55 Black, 25 White, 18 Creme and 3 Cherry, 175 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.

Placing the beads

One large square pegboard (29 × 29 pegs) holds the whole 17 × 15 design. Place the white spots first, then fill the red round them. Check each row against the chart before you move on, as one stray bead is hard to fix after ironing.

Ironing and finishing

An adult should do the ironing. Use ironing paper, a medium dry iron and slow circular movements, lifting the paper to check after about ten seconds. Iron the back once the front has cooled, and leave it under a book so it stays flat. Finished, it is about 8.5 × 7.5 cm, a good size for a magnet or a woodland decoration.

Colour plan

Perler 80-19005 Red does the most work, 42% of the 175 beads, followed by Perler 80-19018 Black at 31%. Perler 80-15961 Cherry (3) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 31% of the grid is left empty.

Working notes

All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
