Needlepoint covers the whole canvas, so every chart here is filled edge to edge, background included. Each pattern page lists the finished size on 10-, 13- and 18-mesh canvas, the thread needed per colour and a symbol chart you can print or follow on screen. The bold lines every ten stitches match the way most stitchers count.
The colours use DMC numbers, which suits stranded or pearl cotton on finer canvas. If you prefer tapestry wool on 10-mesh, match each shade by eye or with your wool supplier's conversion chart, and stitch a small test patch to check the canvas threads are covered.
Small pieces such as the tulip ornament and the lemon coaster are good first projects: they take an evening or two and finish easily with felt backing. The geometric repeats, such as the quatrefoil tiles and the flame stitch, can be extended to any size in the editor for a cushion front or a chair seat.
Every design is original and licensed CC BY-NC 4.0, so you can stitch, gift and show what you make. To change a colour, open the pattern in the editor, select it in the key and choose a replacement thread.
Frequently asked questions
Which stitch do these charts use?
Tent stitch, with one square on the chart for each stitch. Continental or basketweave both work; basketweave distorts the canvas less on large areas.
What size canvas do I need?
Each pattern lists the stitched size on 10-, 13- and 18-mesh canvas. Add at least 5 cm (2 in) of bare canvas on every side for stretching and finishing.
Can I use wool instead of cotton?
Yes. The key gives DMC cotton numbers, but any thread that covers your canvas works. Match the shades to tapestry or Persian wool by eye.
Can I make a design bigger?
Choose a coarser canvas to make it bigger without changing the chart, or open it in the editor and extend the background or repeat the pattern.
