About this design

The puppy looks straight at you, with Brown ears that hang down beside a Tan face. A Creme muzzle frames the black nose and mouth, and two Pink beads make the tongue. Each eye has one White bead in the corner, which is the small detail that makes the face look alive. Swap the Tan and Brown for Black and White or Grey to match a real dog.

Bead counts: 89 Tan, 72 Black, 32 Brown, 23 Creme, 2 White and 2 Pink, 220 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.

Placing the beads

At 19 × 16 beads the design fits on one large 29 × 29 square pegboard with room to spare. Lay the black outline of the ears first, because they set the width of the whole face, then fill the muzzle before the Tan around it.

Ironing and finishing

Ironing is a job for an adult. Cover the beads with ironing paper, set a dry iron to medium and move it in slow circles until the beads just begin to merge. Let it cool, turn it over and press the back, then cool it flat under a heavy book. At about 9.5 × 8 cm it makes a magnet, a bag tag or a card for a new puppy.

Colour plan

Perler 80-19035 Tan does the most work, 40% of the 220 beads, followed by Perler 80-19018 Black at 33%. Perler 80-19001 White (2) and Perler 80-19083 Pink (2) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 28% of the grid is left empty.

Working notes

All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
