About this design
The face is White with two square coal eyes, an Orange carrot nose pointing right and a coal smile. The black top hat has a Red band, and the Red scarf wraps under the face with one end hanging down. Four colours make it a quick Christmas make, and it hangs well as a tree ornament with a ribbon threaded through the hat.
Bead counts: 90 Black, 86 White, 35 Red and 6 Orange, 217 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.
Placing the beads
One large square pegboard (29 × 29 pegs) holds the whole 17 × 19 design. The hat sits on the face without a gap, so place the hat brim and the top of the face together. Check each row against the chart before you move on, as one stray bead is hard to fix after ironing.
Ironing and finishing
An adult should do the ironing. Use ironing paper, a medium dry iron and slow circular movements, lifting the paper to check after about ten seconds. Iron the back once the front has cooled, and leave it under a book so it stays flat. Finished, it is about 8.5 × 9.5 cm, a good size for a tree ornament or a gift tag.
Colour plan
Perler 80-19018 Black does the most work, 41% of the 217 beads, followed by Perler 80-19001 White at 40%. Perler 80-19004 Orange (6) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 33% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
