About this design
Koalas are mostly ears and nose, and this design leans into that. The face is Grey, the round ears have a Light Grey centre with a White bead for the fluffy tuft, and the big black nose takes up the middle of the face. The eyes are single black beads either side. At 17 beads wide it is one of the smaller faces in the library.
Bead counts: 87 Grey, 54 Black, 18 Light Grey and 2 White, 161 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.
Placing the beads
The pattern is 17 × 13, so it sits inside one large square pegboard; centre it so there is a margin all round. Start with the nose in the centre of the board and work outwards; it is the anchor for everything else.
Ironing and finishing
An adult should do the ironing. Use ironing paper, a medium dry iron and slow circular movements, lifting the paper to check after about ten seconds. Iron the back once the front has cooled, and leave it under a book so it stays flat. Finished, it is about 8.5 × 6.5 cm, a good size for a keyring, a magnet or a pencil topper.
Colour plan
Perler 80-19017 Gray does the most work, 54% of the 161 beads, followed by Perler 80-19018 Black at 34%. Perler 80-19001 White (2) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 27% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
