About this design

The shark swims left, with a Grey back, a White underside and a single black eye. A row of White and black beads at the front marks the teeth, the dorsal fin rises in the middle of the back, and the tail splits into two points. Three colours make it a quick build, and it sits nicely next to the whale and the crab for an ocean set.

Bead counts: 80 Grey, 57 Black and 34 White, 171 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.

Placing the beads

The pattern is 24 × 12, so it sits inside one large square pegboard; centre it so there is a margin all round. The two tail points are thin, so press the beads down firmly there before ironing.

Ironing and finishing

With an adult at the iron, fuse the front under ironing paper on a medium setting until the holes start to close, then flip it and do the back. Cool it under something heavy to stop it curling. The finished piece is roughly 12 × 6 cm and works well as a magnet or part of an ocean mobile.

Colour plan

Perler 80-19017 Gray does the most work, 47% of the 171 beads, followed by Perler 80-19018 Black at 33%. Every colour is used at least 34 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 41% of the grid is left empty.

Working notes

All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
