About this design
The coaster is a disc of White with a wide Blush border and a black outline, and a Red heart sits in the middle. Round coasters look neater than square ones on a table, and a set of four makes a good gift. Because it is a solid fill, it is also a good pattern for practising an even iron.
Bead counts: 125 White, 100 Blush, 84 Black and 32 Red, 341 beads in all. Buy a few spares of each colour, because the odd bead always rolls away.
Placing the beads
The pattern is 21 × 21, so it sits inside one large square pegboard; centre it so there is a margin all round. A coaster needs no gaps: check each row is complete before ironing, then iron both sides.
Ironing and finishing
Ironing is a job for an adult. Cover the beads with ironing paper, set a dry iron to medium and move it in slow circles until the beads just begin to merge. Let it cool, turn it over and press the back, then cool it flat under a heavy book. At about 10.5 × 10.5 cm it makes a coaster for a mug or a glass.
Colour plan
Perler 80-19001 White does the most work, 37% of the 341 beads, followed by Perler 80-19063 Blush at 29%. Every colour is used at least 32 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 23% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
All the beads touch along a full side, so it irons into one solid piece.
