About this design
The owl’s face is two large white discs with yellow-ringed pupils looking slightly sideways, and a small orange beak between them. Brown feathers frame the face, with tufts at the top corners, and the chest is a tan panel with darker chevron flecks. Two orange feet grip the bottom row.
How to use it
Owls suit back-to-school designs, library bookmarks and woodland sets. It is a lovely small cross stitch, and makes a sturdy fuse bead magnet. For a snowy owl, recolour the browns to white and grey in the editor.
Size and bead counts
The picture fills 168 of the 256 squares in its grid, within an area 14 squares wide and 14 tall; the rest stay empty. It uses 7 colours: black 50 (#221111), brown 40 (#886644), white 32 (#FFFFFF), tan 26 (#DDBB88), dark brown 12 (#664422), orange 6 (#EE8822), yellow 2 (#FFCC22). Made with 5 mm fuse beads it measures about 7.0 × 7.0 cm and fits on one standard 29 × 29 pegboard. Stitched on 14-count Aida it is about 2.5 × 2.5 cm, or 3.2 × 3.2 cm on 11-count, so add a few centimetres of fabric on every side for the hoop.
Colour plan
#221111 does the most work, 30% of the 168 pixels, followed by #886644 at 24%. #EE8822 (6) and #FFCC22 (2) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 34% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
It is 16 × 16 pixels; at 8× scale it becomes 128 × 128. The busiest row changes colour 12 times.
