Two dates to remember
Mother's Day falls on different dates around the world. In the UK and Ireland it is Mothering Sunday, three weeks before Easter; in the US, Canada, Australia and many other countries it is the second Sunday in May. Start a stitched gift two or three weeks ahead, or a bracelet a few days before.
Gift ideas
The MUM sampler fits on a card or in a small hoop, and the MOM bracelet spells the word along a friendship bracelet. Flowers are a natural choice too: a single rose, a tulip trio or a wildflower bouquet can be framed or stitched onto a bag or tea towel. Children can make the fuse bead designs with an adult doing the ironing.
Make it yours
Use the text tool to spell a name, Mama, Nana or Grandma instead, and change the colours to her favourites in the editor.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a MUM version and a MOM version?
Yes. The cross stitch sampler spells MUM and the alpha bracelet spells MOM; the text tools make either word in any craft.
What can a child make for Mother's Day?
A fuse bead flower or heart, or a simple alpha bracelet, with help for ironing or setting up strings.
How long does the MUM sampler take?
At 50 × 21 stitches, most stitchers finish it in two or three evenings.
Are the patterns free?
Yes, with printable PDFs and full materials lists.
