About this design
Five flowers fan out at different heights, each a five-petalled bloom with a 725 Topaz centre: two in DMC 3708 Melon Light, one in 307 Lemon, one in 3755 Baby Blue and one in 741 Tangerine Medium. Their 3346 Hunter Green stems curve down and gather together at the bottom, where a 3685 Mauve tie binds them, and a few 3347 leaves sprout along the way. The loose arrangement looks hand-picked rather than formal.
How to work it
Stitch the stems first, from the flowers down to the tie, then add each flower and its centre. The stems are single-stitch lines; backstitch them in 3346 instead if you prefer smoother curves.
Finishing ideas
At 28 × 31 stitches the design is about 2.0 × 2.2 inches (5.1 × 5.6 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.6 × 1.7 inches on 18-count. A perfect Mother’s Day, birthday or thank-you gift in a 5-inch hoop or on a card.
Colour plan
DMC 3346 Hunter Green does the most work, 52% of the 198 stitches, followed by DMC 3708 Melon Light at 15%. DMC 725 Topaz Med Lt (5) and DMC 3685 Mauve Very Dark (2) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 77% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
12 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 12 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
