About this design

Cherry blossom, or sakura, celebrates the short Japanese spring. A dark branch of DMC 3371 Black Brown, shaded with 838 Beige Brown Very Dark on its lower side, rises from the bottom left and splits into smaller twigs. Eighteen five-petalled flowers sit along it, each with outer petals of 963 Dusty Rose Ultra Very Light, an inner ring of 3716 Dusty Rose Medium Very Light and a deep 3350 Dusty Rose Ultra Dark centre. A few loose petals drift across a sky of 3753 Antique Blue and 3756 Baby Blue Ultra Very Light.

How to work it

The chart has 4,800 drills in 7 colours. Place the branch first, then each flower centre, then the petals around it. The pale background is the largest area, so leave it until last.

Size and display

With 2.5 mm square drills the picture is 80 × 60 drills, about 20 × 15 cm. The wide format suits a hallway or a space above a desk; a pale wood frame keeps the spring feeling. The materials table lists every colour with a 10% allowance for drills that go astray.

Colour plan

DMC 3753 Antique Blue Ult Vy Lt does the most work, 43% of the 4,800 drills, followed by DMC 3756 Baby Blue Ult Vy Lt at 38%. Every colour is used at least 90 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

241 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; place those drills one at a time. The busiest row changes colour 31 times.
