About this design
The sunflower head is a ring of petals around a large seed head. The petals are bright yellow edged with mustard, and their points wave in and out around the circle so the flower looks lively rather than a perfect disc. The centre is a checkerboard of dark brown and reddish brown, ringed with reddish brown, which imitates the spiralling seeds of a real sunflower. A straight green stem drops to the ground with a bright green leaf on each side, and the background splits into sky blue above and pale aqua lower down, with a strip of rust-brown earth along the bottom.
How to build it
The whole design fits on one 32 × 32 baseplate, about 25.6 cm (10 inches) square. The checkered centre is the only part that needs care: build it row by row, alternating the two browns, and check each row against the chart before moving on. Everything else is long runs of single colours. Pair it with a second plate in the editor to make a row of sunflowers, or change the petals to orange for a different variety.
Colour plan
Sky blue does the most work, 37% of the 1,024 pieces, followed by Light aqua at 22%. Every colour is used at least 20 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
Working notes
On a baseplate, grouping each row's same-coloured studs into 1×N plates (up to 1×8) builds it from about 335 parts instead of 1,024 single studs.
