About this design

Each sunflower is a round flower head eleven rows tall. The outer petals are DMC 973 Canary Bright, a ring of 742 Tangerine Light sits inside them, and the centre is 938 Coffee Brown Ultra Dark with a few knots of 433 Brown Medium scattered through it to suggest seeds. The background is 3325 Baby Blue Light, the colour of a summer sky, which makes the yellow look even brighter. Two plain rows separate the flowers, so the bracelet reads as a chain of blooms.

Setting up and knotting

A 13-knot-wide bracelet needs 13 base strings, plus one working string in each of the 5 colours. Cut the working strings at least a metre long and wind them on bobbins or card so they stay untangled. Each square of the chart is one knot on a base string: forward knots on rows worked left to right, backward knots on rows worked right to left, row by row from the top. Work the brown centre carefully: the lighter brown knots form a small diamond that is easy to misplace by one.

Length and finishing

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 39-row chart makes about 8 cm of bracelet. Knotting the chart twice (78 rows) gives about 16 cm, which fits most adult wrists; stop sooner for a child. Finish with a braided tie or a sliding knot at each end so it can be adjusted.

Colour plan

DMC 3325 Baby Blue Light does the most work, 56% of the 507 knots, followed by DMC 973 Canary Bright at 21%. Every colour is used at least 12 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

It is 39 knot rows of 13 knots; the busiest row changes colour 10 times. 27 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side.
