About this design
The letters are two stitches thick in DMC 3350 Dusty Rose Ultra Dark, tall enough to read from across a room. On each side, two flowers rise on 3346 Hunter Green stems with little leaves: each has 3326 Rose Light petals, 899 Rose Medium diagonal petals and a 444 Lemon Dark centre. A stitched ground line alternating 3346 and 989 Forest Green runs underneath and ties the design together. For the US spelling, the MOM bracelet in the library uses the same colours.
How to work it
Stitch the three letters first, counting carefully from the left edge of the first M; once they are in place, the flowers and stems are easy to position. Work each flower’s centre, then its four straight petals, then the diagonal ones. Finish with the stems, leaves and the ground line.
Finishing ideas
At 50 × 21 stitches the design is about 3.6 × 1.5 inches (9.1 × 3.8 cm) on 14-count Aida and 2.8 × 1.2 inches on 18-count. It fits neatly on the front of a folded card, in a small oval hoop or across a bookmark. Stitch it a few weeks before Mother’s Day and add the year underneath with backstitch.
Colour plan
DMC 3350 Dusty Rose Ultra Dark does the most work, 59% of the 344 stitches, followed by DMC 3346 Hunter Green at 23%. DMC 444 Lemon Dark (4) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 67% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
86 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 49 times.
Anchor equivalents
