About this design

Letter bracelets are some of the most loved alpha patterns, and a bracelet that says MOM makes a simple handmade gift. The letters run along the band, so they read when the bracelet is on the wrist. They are 3350 Dusty Rose Ultra Dark on a background of 3716 Dusty Rose Medium Very Light, with a 321 Red heart at each end. In the UK, change it to MUM in the text tool, which spaces the letters for you.

Setting up and knotting

An 11-knot-wide bracelet needs 11 base strings, plus one working string in each of the three colours. The pink background takes most of the knots (323 of 407), so cut it long. Each square of the chart is one knot; work row by row from the top, and count carefully through the letters, where the colour changes most often.

Length and finishing

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 37-row chart makes about 7.5 cm, about half a bracelet. Add plain pink rows at each end until it reaches the wrist, around 17 cm for most adults, then finish with braided ties or a sliding knot. For a more personal gift, open the design in the text tool and spell a name instead.

Colour plan

DMC 3716 Dusty Rose Med Vy Lt does the most work, 79% of the 407 knots, followed by DMC 3350 Dusty Rose Ultra Dark at 13%. Every colour is used at least 32 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

It is 37 knot rows of 11 knots; the busiest row changes colour 4 times. No square stands alone in its colour.
