About this design

A daisy chain is a summer classic, and this bracelet recreates one in knots. Each flower is a rounded cluster of B5200 Snow White petals around a small cross-shaped centre of 972 Canary Deep. The flowers alternate between the left and right of the band with a single plain row between them, so they zigzag down the band like a chain. The background is 3817 Celadon Green Light, a gentle grass colour that keeps the white petals crisp. It uses three colours and no diagonals, so it is very approachable.

Setting up and knotting

A 14-knot-wide bracelet needs 14 base strings, plus one working string in each of the 3 colours. Cut the working strings at least a metre long and wind them on bobbins or card so they stay untangled. Each square of the chart is one knot on a base string: forward knots on rows worked left to right, backward knots on rows worked right to left, row by row from the top. Snow White shows dirt easily; wash your hands before you start and store the work in a bag between sessions.

Length and finishing

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 40-row chart makes about 8 cm of bracelet. Knotting the chart twice (80 rows) gives about 16 cm, which fits most adult wrists; stop sooner for a child. Finish with a braided tie or a sliding knot at each end so it can be adjusted.

Colour plan

DMC 3817 Celadon Green Lt does the most work, 62% of the 560 knots, followed by DMC B5200 Snow White at 34%. Every colour is used at least 25 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

It is 40 knot rows of 14 knots; the busiest row changes colour 4 times. No square stands alone in its colour.
