About this design
The daisy head is a ring of eight Blanc petals, each edged in Pearl Gray (415) so the white shows up on white or cream Aida. The centre is Yellow (743) with a few stitches of Topaz (725) in the middle, and a stem in two greens (702 and 699) carries a leaf on each side. Everything is whole cross stitches, with no backstitch, so it is a good first flower.
Stitch counts: 88 in BLANC (White), 83 in 415 (Pearl Gray), 22 in 699 (Green), 16 in 743 (Yellow Med), 15 in 702 (Kelly Green) and 5 in 725 (Topaz Med Lt), 229 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Use two strands on 14-count Aida and start from the middle: fold the fabric in four to find the centre and match it to the centre of the chart. Stitch the 415 outline of the petals first, then fill them with Blanc; the outline tells you exactly where each white stitch goes.
Finishing ideas
At 17 × 23 stitches the design is about 1.2 × 1.6 inches on 14-count Aida and 0.9 × 1.3 inches on 18-count. A 4-inch hoop leaves room to frame it, and it also makes a card or a bookmark.
Colour plan
DMC BLANC White does the most work, 38% of the 229 stitches, followed by DMC 415 Pearl Gray at 36%. DMC 725 Topaz Med Lt (5) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 41% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
18 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 11 times.
