About this design
The rings are drawn as true circles, each two stitches deep in DMC 729 Old Gold Medium and edged with 3829 Old Gold Very Dark so their shape stays clear. Where they overlap, one ring passes over the other at the top and under it at the bottom, which is what makes them look linked rather than simply touching. A few stitches of 3822 Straw Light on the upper left of the first ring catch the light, and a 321 Red heart sits above the pair.
How to work it
Stitch the dark gold edges of the left ring first, then the right ring, following the chart closely where they cross: the order of the edge stitches is what creates the over-and-under effect. Fill the medium gold between the edges, add the highlights, and finish with the heart. A metallic gold thread worked over the 729 areas adds sparkle.
Finishing ideas
At 37 × 27 stitches the design is about 2.6 × 1.9 inches (6.7 × 4.9 cm) on 14-count Aida and 2.1 × 1.5 inches on 18-count. Stitch the couple’s initials and wedding date underneath for a keepsake, mount it in a card, or frame it as an anniversary gift.
Colour plan
DMC 3829 Old Gold Vy Dark does the most work, 60% of the 225 stitches, followed by DMC 729 Old Gold Medium at 25%. DMC 3822 Straw Light (5) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 77% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
46 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 16 times.
