About this design
Eight hearts sit evenly around a circle, each one DMC 3705 Melon Dark with a 321 Red right side so it looks lit from the left. Between each pair of hearts is a small leaf in 3347 Yellow Green Medium and 3345 Hunter Green Dark, angled along the curve so the whole ring reads as a wreath. The centre is left open on purpose: it is the place for initials, a wedding date, a baby’s name or a single word.
How to work it
Use the centre arrows to find the middle and stitch the top heart first, then work around the ring. Each leaf is angled differently, so follow the chart rather than copying the last one. Plan any lettering in the editor’s text tool, then stitch it in the centre last.
Finishing ideas
At 32 × 30 stitches the design is about 2.3 × 2.1 inches (5.8 × 5.4 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.8 × 1.7 inches on 18-count. A thoughtful wedding, anniversary or Valentine gift; frame it in a 5-inch hoop with the couple’s initials inside.
Colour plan
DMC 3705 Melon Dark does the most work, 47% of the 272 stitches, followed by DMC 321 Red at 25%. Every colour is used at least 27 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 72% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
10 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 12 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
