About this design
The hat leans to the right, with its tip folding over to a round white pompom, and a dark red stripe down the right side gives it a soft fold. The brim is a wide white band with a few grey stitches to suggest fur, outlined in black so it stands out on white or cream fabric.
How to use it
With only five colours and large areas of each, it is one of the quickest Christmas designs in the library and a good first project. Use it on cards, gift tags or a stitched patch for a stocking. Add a name under the brim with the text stamp in the editor.
Size and threads
The chart is 20 stitches wide and 17 tall, with 210 full cross stitches in 5 colours: DMC 321 Red (76), DMC 310 Black (75), DMC B5200 Snow White (34), DMC 762 Pearl Gray Vy Lt (19), DMC 498 Red Dark (6). On 14-count Aida the design measures about 3.6 × 3.1 cm (1.4 × 1.2 in); on 18-count it shrinks to 2.8 × 2.4 cm. Cut the fabric at least 5 cm larger than the design on every side so it fits a hoop, and use two strands on 14-count. Each colour needs well under one skein.
Colour plan
DMC 321 Red does the most work, 36% of the 210 stitches, followed by DMC 310 Black at 36%. DMC 498 Red Dark (6) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 38% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
7 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 10 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
