About this design
The antlers branch twice on each side in a soft grey-brown, and the head is mid brown with a darker inner ear. A pale muzzle fills the lower half of the face, with a bright red nose in the middle and two small eyes with white highlights above it. The black outline keeps the antlers separate from the head.
How to use it
It is a fun card or ornament for children, and stitched on a dark fabric the red nose stands out. Leave out the red and use brown for a plain reindeer, or add a scarf in the editor. Pair it with the Santa hat and stocking for a Christmas set.
Size and threads
The chart is 17 stitches wide and 19 tall, with 192 full cross stitches in 7 colours: DMC 310 Black (79), DMC 433 Brown Med (54), DMC 3863 Mocha Beige Med (26), DMC 738 Tan Very Light (19), DMC 801 Coffee Brown Dk (6), DMC 666 Bright Red (6), DMC B5200 Snow White (2). On 14-count Aida the design measures about 3.1 × 3.4 cm (1.2 × 1.4 in); on 18-count it shrinks to 2.4 × 2.7 cm. Cut the fabric at least 5 cm larger than the design on every side so it fits a hoop, and use two strands on 14-count. Each colour needs well under one skein.
Colour plan
DMC 310 Black does the most work, 41% of the 192 stitches, followed by DMC 433 Brown Med at 28%. DMC 801 Coffee Brown Dk (6), DMC 666 Bright Red (6) and DMC B5200 Snow White (2) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 41% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
19 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 11 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
