About this design
The star has five clean points, each two or three stitches wide, with a light cream highlight running up the top point and a deeper gold along the right edges for shading. It is symmetrical, so it is easy to count, and only four colours means very few thread changes.
How to use it
Stitch two, back them together with felt and stuff lightly for a soft tree topper or hanging decoration. On a card, metallic gold thread in place of the main gold adds sparkle; use one strand of metallic with one strand of cotton to make it easier to stitch.
Size and threads
The chart is 17 stitches wide and 17 tall, with 145 full cross stitches in 4 colours: DMC 725 Topaz Med Lt (67), DMC 310 Black (58), DMC 3820 Straw Dark (17), DMC 3865 Winter White (3). On 14-count Aida the design measures about 3.1 × 3.1 cm (1.2 × 1.2 in); on 18-count it shrinks to 2.4 × 2.4 cm. Cut the fabric at least 5 cm larger than the design on every side so it fits a hoop, and use two strands on 14-count. Each colour needs well under one skein.
Colour plan
DMC 725 Topaz Med Lt does the most work, 46% of the 145 stitches, followed by DMC 310 Black at 40%. DMC 3865 Winter White (3) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 50% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
21 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 11 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
