About this design
The cane has diagonal stripes of Red (321) and Blanc inside a Garnet (815) outline, with a curved hook at the top. The outline means the white stripes show up even on white fabric. It needs only three colours and makes a quick ornament or a gift tag.
Stitch counts: 52 in 815 (Garnet Medium), 34 in 321 (Red) and 33 in BLANC (White), 119 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Use two strands on 14-count Aida and start from the middle: fold the fabric in four to find the centre and match it to the centre of the chart. Stitch the garnet outline first, then the red stripes; the white goes in last.
Finishing ideas
At 17 × 19 stitches the design is about 1.2 × 1.4 inches on 14-count Aida and 0.9 × 1.1 inches on 18-count. A 4-inch hoop leaves room to frame it, and it also makes a tree ornament, a gift tag or a Christmas card.
Colour plan
DMC 815 Garnet Medium does the most work, 44% of the 119 stitches, followed by DMC 321 Red at 29%. Every colour is used at least 33 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 63% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
8 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 11 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
