About this design
His body is warm golden brown with a darker shade under the arms, and white stitches mark the icing: zigzags at the wrists and ankles and a big smile. Three buttons run down the middle in red, green and red, and two black eyes sit high on the round head. The outline is a single black line, so the shape is easy to follow even for a first project.
How to use it
He makes a sweet ornament, a recipe-card decoration or a kitchen towel motif. Stitch a row of three in different icing colours for a festive band. He pairs with the gingerbread house in the library for a baking-themed set, and the same grid works as a fuse bead decoration.
Size and threads
The chart is 17 stitches wide and 20 tall, with 206 full cross stitches in 5 colours: DMC 434 Brown Light (120), DMC 310 Black (70), DMC B5200 Snow White (13), DMC 321 Red (2), DMC 699 Green (1). On 14-count Aida the design measures about 3.1 × 3.6 cm (1.2 × 1.4 in); on 18-count it shrinks to 2.4 × 2.8 cm. Cut the fabric at least 5 cm larger than the design on every side so it fits a hoop, and use two strands on 14-count. Each colour needs well under one skein.
Colour plan
DMC 434 Brown Light does the most work, 58% of the 206 stitches, followed by DMC 310 Black at 34%. DMC 321 Red (2) and DMC 699 Green (1) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 39% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
22 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 12 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
