About this design
The walls and roof are DMC 435 Brown Very Light, the colour of a freshly baked biscuit. White B5200 icing drips along the roof edges and runs along the base, two windows framed in 699 Green glow with a 725 Topaz Medium Light candle, and a 801 Coffee Brown door sits between white door posts. Red 321 sweets are dotted down the walls. It is quick, cheerful and full of festive detail.
How to work it
Stitch the roof icing first, which outlines the shape, then fill the gingerbread walls, leaving gaps for the windows, door and sweets. Add those details last. A few French knots in white on the roof make lovely snow.
Finishing ideas
At 21 × 18 stitches the design is about 1.5 × 1.3 inches (3.8 × 3.3 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.2 × 1.0 inches on 18-count. Stitch it on a Christmas card, a stocking cuff or a felt ornament for the tree.
Colour plan
DMC 435 Brown Very Light does the most work, 54% of the 218 stitches, followed by DMC B5200 Snow White at 33%. DMC 321 Red (6), DMC 801 Coffee Brown Dk (3) and DMC 725 Topaz Med Lt (2) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 42% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
8 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 10 times.
