About this design
The planet is striped in Orange Spice Light (722) and Medium (721), and a tilted ring in Lavender Blue Light (3840) and Dark (3838) passes behind it at the top and in front of it at the bottom. Five single Topaz (726) stitches are scattered around as stars. The ring takes a little counting, which is why it is marked a step up.
Stitch counts: 64 in 722 (Orange Spice Light), 60 in 721 (Orange Spice Med), 34 in 3840 (Lavender Blue Light), 25 in 3838 (Lavender Blue Dark) and 5 in 726 (Topaz Light), 188 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Find the centre of your fabric and of the chart, and begin there so the design sits in the middle. Stitch the planet first, then the ring; where the ring passes in front, its stitches replace the planet’s. Two strands on 14-count is the usual choice.
Finishing ideas
At 27 × 19 stitches the design is about 1.9 × 1.4 inches on 14-count Aida and 1.5 × 1.1 inches on 18-count. A 4-inch hoop leaves room to frame it, and it also makes a child’s card.
Colour plan
DMC 722 Orange Spice Light does the most work, 34% of the 188 stitches, followed by DMC 721 Orange Spice Med at 32%. DMC 726 Topaz Light (5) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 63% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
13 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 9 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
