About this design
The rocket body is Blanc with a Steel Gray (414) outline, a Red (321) nose cone and two red fins. A small square window in Baby Blue (3755) sits near the top, and the flame below is Tangerine (740) with a Tangerine Light (742) tip. It is symmetrical and quick, a good one for children.
Stitch counts: 50 in BLANC (White), 39 in 414 (Steel Gray Dk), 36 in 321 (Red), 11 in 740 (Tangerine), 6 in 3755 (Baby Blue) and 5 in 742 (Tangerine Light), 147 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Stitch the grey outline first, then the red parts and the window, and fill the white last. Two strands of floss on 14-count Aida give good coverage, and working each colour in rows of half stitches, then coming back to cross them, keeps the stitches neat and even.
Finishing ideas
On 14-count Aida the 15 × 19 stitch design comes out at about 1.1 × 1.4 inches, and on 18-count about 0.8 × 1.1 inches. Mount it in a 4-inch hoop, or use it for a child’s card or a bag patch.
Colour plan
DMC BLANC White does the most work, 34% of the 147 stitches, followed by DMC 414 Steel Gray Dk at 27%. DMC 3755 Baby Blue (6) and DMC 742 Tangerine Light (5) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 48% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
2 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 8 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
