About this design

The stars are DMC 726 Topaz Light, a warm golden yellow that glows against 823 Navy Blue Dark. Each one is seven rows tall with a single point at the top, wide arms across the middle and two legs at the bottom, and the stars shift slightly from side to side down the band so the bracelet does not look rigid. Single White knots are scattered through the navy background as distant twinkling stars. With only three colours, it is a good choice for a first picture pattern.

Setting up and knotting

A 12-knot-wide bracelet needs 12 base strings, plus one working string in each of the 3 colours. Cut the working strings at least a metre long and wind them on bobbins or card so they stay untangled. Each square of the chart is one knot on a base string: forward knots on rows worked left to right, backward knots on rows worked right to left, row by row from the top. The white twinkles are single knots; mark them on the printed chart so you remember to switch colours.

Length and finishing

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 30-row chart makes about 6 cm of bracelet. Knotting the chart three times (90 rows) gives about 18 cm, which fits most adult wrists; stop sooner for a child. Finish with a braided tie or a sliding knot at each end so it can be adjusted.

Colour plan

DMC 823 Navy Blue Dark does the most work, 67% of the 360 knots, followed by DMC 726 Topaz Light at 29%. Every colour is used at least 13 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

It is 30 knot rows of 12 knots; the busiest row changes colour 6 times. 14 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side.
