About this design
The canopy is a half circle split into five panels: Red (321), Tangerine (740), Yellow (743), Chartreuse (703) and Baby Blue Medium (334). The bottom edge dips between the ribs, and a Pewter Gray Very Dark (3799) handle runs down the middle to a hook. Pair it with the rain cloud for a cheerful set.
Stitch counts: 54 in 321 (Red), 54 in 334 (Baby Blue Medium), 46 in 740 (Tangerine), 46 in 703 (Chartreuse), 41 in 743 (Yellow Med) and 14 in 3799 (Pewter Gray Vy Dk), 255 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Stitch the handle first, then each panel from the centre outwards. Two strands of floss on 14-count Aida give good coverage, and working each colour in rows of half stitches, then coming back to cross them, keeps the stitches neat and even.
Finishing ideas
At 27 × 23 stitches the design is about 1.9 × 1.6 inches on 14-count Aida and 1.5 × 1.3 inches on 18-count. A 4-inch hoop leaves room to frame it, and it also makes a card or a bookmark.
Colour plan
DMC 321 Red does the most work, 21% of the 255 stitches, followed by DMC 334 Baby Blue Medium at 21%. Every colour is used at least 14 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 59% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
2 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 12 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
