About this design
The plant is a fan of pointed leaves in three blue-greens (501, 502 and 504), with the darkest in the middle and the palest on the tips. It sits in a Terra Cotta (3830) pot with a lighter rim line (3778) and two small marks on the front. It is a quick, satisfying stitch, and plant lovers will recognise it straight away.
Stitch counts: 112 in 3830 (Terra Cotta), 37 in 502 (Blue Green), 33 in 501 (Blue Green Dark), 25 in 504 (Blue Green Vy Lt) and 17 in 3778 (Terra Cotta Light), 224 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Fill the pot first; it is a big block of one colour and gives you a straight base line to count the leaves from. Keep all your top stitches crossing in the same direction; it is the one habit that makes a finished piece look tidy. Two strands on 14-count Aida work well.
Finishing ideas
At 17 × 18 stitches the design is about 1.2 × 1.3 inches on 14-count Aida and 0.9 × 1.0 inches on 18-count. A 4-inch hoop leaves room to frame it, and it also makes a card or a plant lover’s gift.
Colour plan
DMC 3830 Terra Cotta does the most work, 50% of the 224 stitches, followed by DMC 502 Blue Green at 17%. Every colour is used at least 17 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 27% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
25 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 14 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
