About this design
The dragonfly’s long body is DMC 3765 Peacock Blue Very Dark, with small notches along its length marking the segments, and a wider 3810 Turquoise Dark head at the top. Two pairs of wings stretch out on each side: the upper pair in 3811 Turquoise Very Light and the lower pair in 3325 Baby Blue Light, both slim diamond shapes that suggest the delicate, see-through wings of a real dragonfly.
How to work it
Stitch the body first, top to bottom, then the head. The wings are mirror images; stitch one wing and copy it across the body. For extra sparkle, outline the wings with a single strand of metallic thread.
Finishing ideas
At 26 × 30 stitches the design is about 1.9 × 2.1 inches (4.7 × 5.4 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.4 × 1.7 inches on 18-count. Use it on a card, a summer cushion or a garden-themed sampler; it looks lovely on pale green or blue Aida.
Colour plan
DMC 3765 Peacock Blue Vy Dk does the most work, 39% of the 111 stitches, followed by DMC 3811 Turquoise Very Light at 32%. DMC 3810 Turquoise Dark (8) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 86% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
No square stands alone in its colour, so every colour works up in solid blocks. The busiest row changes colour 6 times.
