About this design
The cloud is Antique Blue Ultra Very Light (3753) with an Antique Blue Light (932) outline and a flat base. Below it, raindrops fall in Baby Blue Medium (334) with a Baby Blue (3755) highlight on each. The design is calm and simple and works well in a nursery or as a ‘thinking of you’ card.
Stitch counts: 143 in 3753 (Antique Blue Ult Vy Lt), 49 in 932 (Antique Blue Light), 25 in 334 (Baby Blue Medium) and 16 in 3755 (Baby Blue), 233 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Stitch the cloud outline first; the raindrops are all the same shape, so place them by counting down from the cloud’s base. Keep all your top stitches crossing in the same direction; it is the one habit that makes a finished piece look tidy. Two strands on 14-count Aida work well.
Finishing ideas
Finished, it measures roughly 1.7 × 1.4 inches on 14-count (1.3 × 1.1 inches on 18-count), so a 4-inch hoop suits it. It is also the right size for a card.
Colour plan
DMC 3753 Antique Blue Ult Vy Lt does the most work, 61% of the 233 stitches, followed by DMC 932 Antique Blue Light at 21%. Every colour is used at least 16 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 51% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
23 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 11 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
