About this design
Six hearts sit side by side, alternating between DMC 321 Red and 3708 Melon Light, each heart eight stitches wide. A dotted line of 3346 Hunter Green runs along the top and bottom, offset so the dots alternate. The pattern repeats every 20 stitches, so you can stitch it along a towel, a pillowcase, a shelf edge or the hem of a child’s dress, as long or as short as you need.
How to work it
Stitch the dotted lines first to fix the band’s position, then the hearts between them. Count the gap between each heart carefully so the repeat stays even all the way along.
Finishing ideas
At 60 × 12 stitches the design is about 4.3 × 0.9 inches (10.9 × 2.2 cm) on 14-count Aida and 3.3 × 0.7 inches on 18-count. Edge a tea towel, a bib, a pillowcase or a framed sampler; it also works as a bookmark on Aida band.
Colour plan
DMC 321 Red does the most work, 43% of the 420 stitches, followed by DMC 3708 Melon Light at 43%. Every colour is used at least 60 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 42% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
60 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 59 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
