About this design
The pudding is a dark brown dome speckled with lighter fruit stitches, with a darker shadow along the base. White sauce covers the top and drips down the sides in uneven points, and a holly sprig with two leaves and red berries sits on top, the traditional finishing touch of a British Christmas pudding.
How to use it
It is a charming card front and a fun alternative to the usual tree or snowman. Stitch it for a Christmas recipe book cover, a tea towel or a mini hoop. For a lighter version, change the pudding brown to a lighter shade in the editor.
Size and threads
The chart is 18 stitches wide and 17 tall, with 223 full cross stitches in 7 colours: DMC 3371 Black Brown (99), DMC B5200 Snow White (47), DMC 310 Black (42), DMC 801 Coffee Brown Dk (18), DMC 699 Green (9), DMC 321 Red (4), DMC 434 Brown Light (4). On 14-count Aida the design measures about 3.3 × 3.1 cm (1.3 × 1.2 in); on 18-count it shrinks to 2.5 × 2.4 cm. Cut the fabric at least 5 cm larger than the design on every side so it fits a hoop, and use two strands on 14-count. Each colour needs well under one skein.
Colour plan
DMC 3371 Black Brown does the most work, 44% of the 223 stitches, followed by DMC B5200 Snow White at 21%. DMC 699 Green (9), DMC 321 Red (4) and DMC 434 Brown Light (4) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 27% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
14 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 9 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
