About this design
The bauble is a near-perfect circle at this size, with a darker red along the lower right and a white highlight on the upper left that makes it look shiny. A gold band crosses the middle with alternating green and gold stitches, and a gold cap and hanging loop sit on top. Seven colours keep it simple, but the shading lifts it from flat to round.
How to use it
This is the obvious choice for a stitched tree ornament: stitch it, back it with felt or card and hang it by the loop. Change the red to blue, purple or silver in the editor to make a set, one for each colour of your tree. It also looks good framed in a small hoop.
Size and threads
The chart is 17 stitches wide and 18 tall, with 199 full cross stitches in 7 colours: DMC 321 Red (76), DMC 310 Black (42), DMC 725 Topaz Med Lt (42), DMC 498 Red Dark (16), DMC 3820 Straw Dark (10), DMC 699 Green (8), DMC B5200 Snow White (5). On 14-count Aida the design measures about 3.1 × 3.3 cm (1.2 × 1.3 in); on 18-count it shrinks to 2.4 × 2.5 cm. Cut the fabric at least 5 cm larger than the design on every side so it fits a hoop, and use two strands on 14-count. Each colour needs well under one skein.
Colour plan
DMC 321 Red does the most work, 38% of the 199 stitches, followed by DMC 310 Black at 21%. DMC 699 Green (8) and DMC B5200 Snow White (5) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 35% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
19 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 16 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
