About this design
The skin is a ring of Hunter Green Dark (3345), the flesh is Avocado Green (471) fading to Yellow Green Light (3348) around the stone, and the stone is Brown Light (434) with a Tan (437) highlight. The pear shape and the bands of colour make it read clearly even at this small size.
Stitch counts: 107 in 471 (Avocado Grn V Lt), 50 in 3345 (Hunter Green Dk), 45 in 3348 (Yellow Green Lt), 32 in 434 (Brown Light) and 5 in 437 (Tan Light), 239 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Find the centre of your fabric and of the chart, and begin there so the design sits in the middle. Work from the outside in: skin, outer flesh, inner flesh, then the stone. Two strands on 14-count is the usual choice.
Finishing ideas
Finished, it measures roughly 1.1 × 1.5 inches on 14-count (0.8 × 1.2 inches on 18-count), so a 4-inch hoop suits it. It is also the right size for a card or a tea towel corner.
Colour plan
DMC 471 Avocado Grn V Lt does the most work, 45% of the 239 stitches, followed by DMC 3345 Hunter Green Dk at 21%. DMC 437 Tan Light (5) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 24% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
7 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 8 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
