About this design
The pear’s classic shape comes from two overlapping ovals: a smaller one at the top and a larger one at the bottom. The left half is DMC 3819 Moss Green Light and the right half 581 Moss Green, which gives a simple, effective light and shadow. A short 433 Brown Medium stalk rises from the top, with a bright 704 Chartreuse leaf angling out to the right. It is a simple shape with only four colours, ideal for a beginner.
How to work it
Stitch the stalk first to fix the centre, then the light half of the pear and the dark half. Add the leaf last. Backstitch an outline in 580 if you want a bolder, more graphic look.
Finishing ideas
At 24 × 24 stitches the design is about 1.7 × 1.7 inches (4.4 × 4.4 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.3 × 1.3 inches on 18-count. Make a set of fruits for a kitchen, add it to a recipe book cover, or stitch a row of pears on an apron.
Colour plan
DMC 3819 Moss Green Lt does the most work, 46% of the 208 stitches, followed by DMC 581 Moss Green at 46%. DMC 433 Brown Med (8) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 64% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
No square stands alone in its colour, so every colour works up in solid blocks. The busiest row changes colour 5 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
