About this design
Each ring of this mandala has a scalloped outer edge, alternating between six and twelve petals, so the rings look like flowers nested inside each other. The colours run through the rainbow from the centre outwards: DMC 321 Red, 608 Burnt Orange Bright, 742 Tangerine Light, 307 Lemon, 703 Chartreuse, 3846 Turquoise Bright Light, 797 Royal Blue and 552 Violet Medium, with a thin line of Snow White around every ring. The background is 823 Navy Blue Dark, which makes the bright colours glow.
How to work it
The chart has 3,600 drills in 10 colours. Work from the centre outwards, one ring at a time, finishing each ring’s white edge before starting the next colour.
Size and display
With 2.5 mm square drills the picture is 60 × 60 drills, about 15 × 15 cm. Circular designs look striking in a round frame, or in a square frame with a dark mount. The materials table lists every colour with a 10% allowance for drills that go astray.
Colour plan
DMC 823 Navy Blue Dark does the most work, 41% of the 3,600 drills, followed by DMC B5200 Snow White at 14%. Every colour is used at least 68 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
Working notes
264 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; place those drills one at a time. The busiest row changes colour 36 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
