About this design
Koi circling in a pond are a symbol of harmony, and this chart places two of them nose to tail. One is DMC 740 Tangerine patched with B5200 Snow White, the other is the reverse, white with tangerine patches, and each has a single black eye. The water is three turquoises, 3809 Very Dark, 3810 Dark and 598 Light, arranged in soft rippling patches so the pond seems to move. Three lily pads in 989 and 987 Forest Green float around the edges, one with a small dusty rose flower.
How to work it
The chart has 3,600 drills in 10 colours. Start with the two fish, which have the most detail and the brightest colours, then fill the water around them. The ripples are large patches of each turquoise, so work one shade at a time across the whole canvas.
Size and display
With 2.5 mm square drills the picture is 60 × 60 drills, about 15 × 15 cm. The square format suits a box frame or a square canvas on a bathroom or bedroom wall. The materials table lists every colour with a 10% allowance for drills that go astray.
Colour plan
DMC 3810 Turquoise Dark does the most work, 43% of the 3,600 drills, followed by DMC 3809 Turquoise Vy Dark at 24%. DMC 3354 Dusty Rose Light (5), DMC 310 Black (4) and DMC 3350 Dusty Rose Ultra Dark (1) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. Every square of the grid is filled.
Working notes
1 square stands alone in its colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; place those drills one at a time. The busiest row changes colour 14 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
