About this design
Two holly leaves in DMC 699 Green angle away from each other, each with a dark 909 Emerald Green Very Dark centre vein and wavy edges that suggest the spiky points of real holly. Three round 321 Red berries cluster where the leaves meet, each with a tiny White highlight that makes them look shiny. It is a small, quick motif that instantly says Christmas.
How to work it
Stitch the leaves first, then the veins, then the berries. Add a backstitch outline in 909 around the leaves to sharpen the points if you like, and stitch the berry highlights as the very last stitches so they stay bright.
Finishing ideas
At 26 × 22 stitches the design is about 1.9 × 1.6 inches (4.7 × 4.0 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.4 × 1.2 inches on 18-count. Perfect for Christmas cards, gift tags, a napkin corner or the cuff of a stocking.
Colour plan
DMC 699 Green does the most work, 54% of the 114 stitches, followed by DMC 909 Emerald Green Vy Dk at 27%. DMC BLANC White (3) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 80% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
5 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 8 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
