About this design
The bear is Brown Very Light (435) with a Brown Medium (433) outline, a Tan Very Light (738) muzzle, tummy and paw pads, and a Dusty Rose (3716) bow at the neck. The eyes are Black and the nose is Black Brown (3371). It is a natural choice for a new-baby card or a birth sampler.
Stitch counts: 113 in 435 (Brown Very Light), 78 in 433 (Brown Med), 56 in 738 (Tan Very Light), 16 in 3716 (Dusty Rose Med Vy Lt), 4 in 3371 (Black Brown) and 2 in 310 (Black), 269 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Use two strands on 14-count Aida and start from the middle: fold the fabric in four to find the centre and match it to the centre of the chart. Stitch the outline in sections and fill each one before moving on.
Finishing ideas
On 14-count Aida the 17 × 20 stitch design comes out at about 1.2 × 1.4 inches, and on 18-count about 0.9 × 1.1 inches. Mount it in a 4-inch hoop, or use it for a new-baby card or a birth sampler.
Colour plan
DMC 435 Brown Very Light does the most work, 42% of the 269 stitches, followed by DMC 433 Brown Med at 29%. DMC 3371 Black Brown (4) and DMC 310 Black (2) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 21% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
12 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 8 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
